Jesus Youth Professionals Ministry

Deepthy Mathew

Ephphatha ’12 was yet another manifestation of the Lord’s wonderful grace upon all of us. This two day retreat initiated by the JY Professional Ministry from Fri, 15th Jun to Sun, 17th Jun was conducted mainly for the working professionals. There were around 50 participants including couples and families from various organizations.

For many of them, this was a wonderful first time experience with the Lord Jesus. As the word suggests, Ephphatha (meaning ‘be opened’) truly opened up the eyes of the hearts of all who came. These two days spent with the Lord helped each us to identify the dark spaces in our lives where we needed the Lord’s intervention. Beena chechi started off and shared with us about how important it is for each one of us to completely give our hearts to the Lord if He has to work in us. The first session of the retreat also emphasized on committing ourselves to the Lord Almighty so that he can mould us into perfection for His great and special purpose in our life.

The second day was intended for the inner healing---to spot and remove the impurities within us. There was a session to make us aware of the sins that we knowingly or unknowingly commit in our day-to-day lives and that the very means by which we sin will eventually be the bearers of the punishment of that sin .We have to let go of such chains that keep us from coming close to Jesus. The confession and counseling sessions during the retreat were a great blessing and comfort for many to relieve themselves of these burdens. We were also spoken to about how we ought to forgive and love those who hurt us. During the Holy Mass, the Lord clearly gave the message as to how we madly run behind the basic amenities in life--food, clothing and shelter, forgetting that He has always provided His children’s needs in the best way out of His grace and that there are many around us who don’t have any of these. The time of adoration was a time for all to experience the great and wonderful presence of our Lord. Many hearts were touched, sicknesses were healed and obstacles were removed.

On Sunday during Holy Mass, the message given was about the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of the Lord will always be there with us to guide us in the right path. It is up to each one of us to kindle the holy fire given within us and see that it does not burn out. The anointing prayer toward the end of the sessions brought in a lot of grace from above.

On a closing note, Naveen chettan introduced the Jesus Youth Movement and the Jesus Youth Professional Ministry—its birth, growth and its ongoing challenging journey for the Lord. The six pillars of JY were briefed upon and all present were invited for the regular JY gatherings. The retreat was a blessing for all who came…be it to attend or to volunteer…the Lord had something to say to each one there…Ephphatha’12 has indeed opened up greater channels for the Holy Spirit to work wonders and reach out to many more….

Praise be to our Awesome God!!!
